Director of Product

Via•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Via is seeking a Director of Product to define and drive the next era of Remix, its transit planning and scheduling platform used by transit agencies worldwide. The role will shape Remix into a multimodal planning and scheduling system that gives agencies an authoritative place to make decisions across the service types they operate, including fixed route, paratransit, microtransit, and emerging modes. The Director of Product will own the end-to-end product experience, from strategic planning through live execution. The role focuses on helping agencies move from static schedules toward data-driven, dynamically optimized operations while accounting for labor union rules, contractual constraints, and operational needs. The work is intended to improve scheduling accuracy, dispatcher confidence, and rider reliability, ultimately affecting public transit riders at scale.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of product management experience, including ownership of complex enterprise software products.
  • A track record of shipping high-quality products for sophisticated, workflow-heavy enterprise environments where errors have significant consequences.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with operational detail.
  • Strong ability to simplify complexity by translating varied customer needs and intricate business rules into clear, scalable product decisions.
  • Empathy for planners, schedulers, and dispatchers, and ability to design for their real working context.
  • Ability to become technically fluent in data models and entities used in scheduling and operations systems, including blocks, runs, trips, stops, vehicles, duties, and pairings.
  • Ability to participate credibly in technical architecture decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and advocate for platform choices that meet current needs and support long-term scalability.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with resource management, labor scheduling, or workforce optimization software.
  • Experience in transportation, transit, or logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for Remix as a global standard for multimodal transit planning and scheduling.
  • Build a framework for data-driven scheduling that helps agencies optimize driver and vehicle time using ridership patterns, operational constraints, and service goals.
  • Incorporate labor union rules, collective bargaining agreements, and workforce regulations into the product in a structured but adaptable way.
  • Connect planning and scheduling to live operations to reduce the gap between scheduled and executed service and improve accuracy, dispatcher confidence, and rider reliability.
  • Partner with engineering, design, data science, and go-to-market teams to deliver products with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Engage frequently with transit planners, schedulers, and operations leaders to identify unmet needs and validate product direction.
  • Monitor industry trends, emerging regulations, and competitive dynamics to keep Remix ahead of the market.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health coverage.
  • Low-cost dental and vision plans.
  • 401(k) with a company match and vesting.
