Director of Performance Marketing

EBAS GroupNew York, NY
Onsite

About The Position

EBAS is partnering with a profitable, fast-scaling edtech startup, backed by top-tier venture investors, to find their first Director of Performance Marketing. Our client is a leading provider of admissions coaching for law school and medical school applicants. This is an opportunity to own the paid marketing engine at a company that's been profitable for two years and is targeting 2x revenue growth this year, manage a budget north of $10M/year with real P&L visibility, work directly with the co-founder, and build the company's paid social strategy from the ground up. Location: New York (in-person, 5 days/week). Why This Role Exists: Our client has built a strong SEO foundation and a highly effective paid search program over the past several years. What the business needs now is a leader who can protect and grow the paid search engine that already works, while building out the paid social channels — Meta, TikTok, ChatGPT, Reddit, Snap — that are still early-stage or untested. This is as much a hands-on-keyboard role as a strategic one: you'll be running campaigns in the platforms yourself, not just directing an agency.

Requirements

  • 6–9 years of hands-on performance marketing experience (paid search and paid social)
  • Lead generation experience with high-ticket services ($5K+ contract values) — comfortable with a low-volume, high-consideration funnel rather than e-commerce or app-store growth
  • Experience managing $10M+ in annual paid media budgets
  • Startup or growth-stage company experience, or agency experience working with startups (firms like Jump 450 or Ampush, rather than agencies serving only large, established brands)
  • A first-principles thinker who builds strategy around what the business actually needs rather than applying a standard channel playbook
  • Hands-on SEO/AEO awareness and hands-on ads platform execution — genuinely in the platforms, not just directing an agency
  • AI fluency — uses AI tools for creative testing and workflows
  • Comfortable being the first senior marketing hire building systems from scratch at an early-stage startup
  • Able to work in person, five days a week, in the company's Manhattan office

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the entire consumer acquisition strategy across paid search (Google Ads), paid social (Meta, TikTok, Snap), and emerging platforms (ChatGPT Ads, Reddit) — hands-on in the platforms daily
  • Develop and drive the strategic vision for performance marketing, thinking first-principles about what channels to prioritize and why based on business needs
  • Scale paid media spend beyond search into new demand-generation channels while maintaining lead quality and CPA thresholds
  • Build and implement multi-touch attribution, incrementality testing, and media mix modeling as the channel mix expands
  • Lead creative testing in partnership with an external creative agency, including experimenting with AI-generated UGC and new ad formats
  • Manage one junior marketer and collaborate cross-functionally with sales, SEO, and lifecycle marketing teams
  • Develop forecasting models, own performance reporting, and drive CRO initiatives to optimize the lead-to-consultation funnel
  • Report directly to the founders and serve as a trusted thought partner on go-to-market strategy and revenue growth
