About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) plans, organizes, develops, and directs the Nursing Department in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. The role is responsible for ensuring consistent delivery of the highest quality of care to residents. The DON defines nursing practice standards, directs nursing staff, oversees resident care and department operations, and supports compliance with applicable healthcare and safety requirements.

Requirements

At least 5 years of previous long-term care experience, or an equivalent combination of education (a bachelor’s degree) and experience.
Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the applicable state.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience managing staff.
Experience working in a long-term care and/or assisted living setting.
Experience with the applicable state Survey Rules and Regulations, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Responsibilities

Define and maintain the facility’s standards of nursing practice.
Understand and review the facility’s Healthcare Clinical Policies and Procedures.
Oversee, direct, and coordinate nursing staff to provide appropriate resident care consistent with standard nursing practices.
Oversee the provision of medications, treatments, and nursing services according to residents’ care plans and physician-directed orders.
Maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
Assess residents’ conditions and vital signs to determine or modify treatment plans.
Periodically update written policies and procedures governing the Nursing Department.
Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the Nursing Department.
Report issues or problems to the Administrator.
Comply with applicable state, federal, and other healthcare and safety standards.
Assist families and other visitors as needed.
Attend or complete required in-services and meetings.
Complete assigned online training to maintain company, state, and federal compliance.
