About The Position

The Director of IT, Business Analysis & Project Management, will lead the Business Analysis and Project Management practices and execution of the demand management process. This role is accountable for maturing disciplined project delivery, aligning technology demand to institutional priorities, and ensuring consistent, effective execution across the portfolio. This position reports to Vice President of Strategic Execution and manages Business Analysts, Project Managers, and related project resources. The role partners closely with IT leadership, functional leaders, Business Intelligence, and vendor partners to support portfolio planning, project execution, reporting, adoption, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in project management, business analysis, practice leadership.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing project managers, business analysts, or similar professional staff.
  • Strong experience with demand management, project lifecycle management, portfolio planning, executive reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives, facilitating prioritization discussions, and communicating effectively with senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, define operating routines, establish metrics, and drive accountability across teams.
  • Experience working in governed environments with attention to risk, compliance, stakeholder communication, and documentation discipline.
  • Experience partnering with vendors, systems integrators, business stakeholders, and technical teams to deliver project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Define, mature, and scale IT project management and business analysis standards, including lifecycle checkpoints, templates, reporting routines, and execution expectations across the portfolio.
  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, prioritization guidance, and performance management for Business Analysts, Project Managers, and related project resources.
  • Partner closely with IT Directors, Solutions Architect, and technical delivery leads to align schedules, balance capacity constraints, remove execution blockers, and ensure smooth handoffs from requirements to implementation.
  • Ensure initiatives follow the IT project lifecycle, approval gates, and escalation processes, applying enhanced oversight for large, complex, key priorities or strategic initiatives, including milestone reviews, executive visibility, readiness reviews, and go/no-go checkpoints.
  • Oversee project scope, schedules, dependencies, risks, resource constraints, and change readiness to keep initiatives on track and aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Establish portfolio management practices that balance strategic priorities, resource capacity, and risk, while tracking portfolio level metrics such as on time delivery, stakeholder satisfaction, process compliance, and ROI realization.
  • Lead the Business Analysis practice and define standards for requirements management, process analysis, stakeholder engagement, documentation, and solution evaluation.
  • Mentor and develop Business Analysts to improve consistency, quality, business partnership, and consultative capabilities.
  • Ensure business needs, acceptance criteria, desired outcomes, and operational impacts are clearly defined before significant IT effort is committed.
  • Partner with stakeholders and delivery teams to shape requests, clarify scope, and improve quality of demand entering the project pipeline.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Business Analysis methods, templates, quality reviews, and integration with project delivery processes.
  • Execute and coordinate the IT demand management process from requirements gathering through scheduling and completion, partnering with IT governance leadership on prioritization, approvals, and ROI realization.
  • Lead Business Analysts in evaluating incoming requests against strategic alignment, resource needs, risk, complexity, and readiness to ensure rigorous intake execution.
  • Participate in stakeholder discussions with IT leadership and functional stakeholders to align demand with capacity, roadmap commitments, and institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with IT governance leadership in maintaining accurate demand and portfolio data to support roadmap planning, capacity management, and leadership reporting.
  • Partner with AI leadership to translate institutional strategy and business needs identified through the BA practice into well-defined requirements that inform AI use case prioritization and delivery.
  • Support AI leadership in driving change management, operational integration, and user enablement to accelerate adoption of deployed AI and digital transformation solutions.
  • Engage senior IT and university business leaders to facilitate prioritization discussions, align cross-departmental expectations, and sustain change readiness across the portfolio.
  • Champion responsible for AI use, data security, and ethical practice standards across the BA and PM practice, consistent with Herzing's AI Governance standards, in coordination with AI leadership on enterprise AI initiatives.
  • Develop executive-ready dashboards, portfolio summaries, project health views, and action-oriented leadership reporting.
  • Provide visibility into demand pipeline, project status, resource utilization, risks, delivery performance, and ROI realization.
  • Lead recurring portfolio reviews and operating routines with clear decisions, next steps, and owners.
  • Support annual roadmap development, investment prioritization, strategic planning, and operational execution planning.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend improvements to increase throughput, predictability, transparency, and stakeholder confidence.
