About The Position

UPMC Washington is seeking a Director of Food Nutrition & Environmental Services to oversee the planning, direction, and evaluation of hospital support service operations in accordance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5 years relevant food/nutrition experience required, with either 4 years relevant leadership experience required OR equivalent combination of education/experience; OR HS Diploma/GED required, with 7 years relevant food/nutrition experience required, and 6 years relevant leadership experience required.
  • Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling including weekends and holidays.
  • Good oral/written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of Environmental Support Services experience preferred.
  • American dietetic association registration or eligibility and or dietary managers certification is preferred.
  • ServSafe certification required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all Environmental Services and Food and Nutrition Services.
  • Design and develop jobs and assignments for housekeeping, meeting set-ups, waste management, and clerical functions with consideration of the size and physical layout of the facility and task frequencies required.
  • Oversee the quality of all functions rendered by the Environmental Services Department to ensure customer satisfaction, infection control and cleanliness standards are met and/or exceeded.
  • Consult with Administration and management peers regarding the functions of the department in their areas of responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Design, implement and/or manage hospital and department Continuous Quality Improvement and quality assessment systems to ensure the effectiveness of all functions of the department.
  • Determines quality and quantity of food required plans and prepares age-appropriate master menus, supervises the planning of menus for therapeutic diets and control food costs.
  • Always ensures inspection readiness.
  • Ensures the preparation of job descriptions and qualifications, performance evaluations, organizational charts and emergency preparedness, infection control and facility manuals reviewing all phases of the development operations.
  • Establishes and maintain rapport with medical, nursing, and other departments to coordinate effective and efficient Food and Nutrition services and activities.
  • Makes frequent inspections of all work, storage, and servicing areas to determine that regulations and directions governing dietetic activities are followed.
  • Oversees the following: Interviews applicants for employment, orients and evaluates employees on a regular basis according to prescribed guidelines. Terminates employees according to standard procedures as required.
  • Monitor the department's responsibilities regarding the transport and disposal of infectious and solid waste. Keep abreast of information regarding laws and regulations governing the disposal of bio-hazardous and chemotherapeutic waste.
  • Position manages union and non-union workforce.
  • Occasional travel will be required to UPMC Greene as needed as this role will oversee both departments at Greene & Washington.
