About The Position

In this leadership role, you’ll plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of the Food Service Department in alignment with UPMC Somerset’s mission and vision. You’ll ensure high-quality nutrition and food services for patients, visitors, and staff—while guiding operations, building strong teams, and driving excellence across clinical nutrition and food service programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required AND 5 years relevant food/nutrition experience required OR 4 years relevant leadership experience required
  • HS Diploma/GED Required AND 7 relevant food/nutrition experience required OR 6 years relevant leadership experience required
  • Servsafe Certified required within 6 months of hire
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • American dietetic association registration or eligibility and or dietary managers certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership for food services, clinical nutrition, and departmental operations, ensuring safe, high-quality service delivery
  • Establish policies and procedures to guide menu development, food preparation, service, budgeting, purchasing, sanitation, safety, and staffing
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, and staff development—coaching your team and fostering a collaborative, positive culture
  • Build strong partnerships with medical, nursing, and hospital departments to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care
  • Oversee menu planning (including therapeutic diets), monitor food quality and quantity, and manage costs while maintaining inspection readiness
  • Lead department scheduling, budgeting, and operational tracking, including labor, supplies, and inventory management
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness standards
  • Drive continuous improvement—reviewing workflows, enhancing processes, and supporting evidence-based practices to improve outcomes and efficiency
  • Maintain accurate food and nutrition systems and conduct regular inspections of work, storage, and service areas
  • Represent the department at meetings and professional events, staying current on industry trends and leading system initiatives as needed
  • Promote team engagement by recognizing success, providing ongoing education, and supporting professional growth
