About The Position

The Director of Finance provides leadership and oversight of all financial activities of the hotel, ensures compliance with local and corporate policies and procedures, safeguards the integrity of internal controls, and oversees the daily operations of the accounting department. This role acts as a strategic business partner to the General Manager in supporting the hotel’s financial performance and overall objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial management is required.
  • Fluency in French and an advanced level of English are required to ensure effective oral and written communication with business partners, stakeholders, suppliers, and a predominantly international clientele.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel accounting is required.
  • Proven leadership skills within a hotel environment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and transparency.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams, negotiate resources, and influence stakeholders, as well as to gain buy-in and commitment to plans, ideas, initiatives, and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver reports, produce effective presentations, and lead meetings.
  • Promote a continuous learning environment that fosters professional development opportunities.
  • Apply an ethical approach when influencing outcomes.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating appropriate professional conduct and strong ethical principles.

Responsibilities

  • Support, mentor, and develop the finance team.
  • Maintain close relationships with hotel owners and internal/external auditors and ensure that all agreed-upon recommendations are acted upon effectively.
  • Assist the General Manager in establishing policies, procedures, internal controls, and safeguards.
  • Consistently deliver a very high standard of financial reporting and analysis, internal control compliance, and corporate governance, always ensuring integrity and accuracy.
  • Ensure that all checks are signed only by authorized parties, that positive pay and payee positive pay are in place on all bank accounts (where applicable), and that source documents are approved by a Group B member.
  • Ensure the preparation of a comprehensive monthly report covering all of the hotel’s financial results, in the formats established by the company and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Continuously strive to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Monitor, control, and record all hotel sales, purchases, payroll, and expenses.
  • Closely monitor and effectively manage labor costs; efficiently plan vacations and ensure appropriate service levels are maintained in compliance with labor standards, while minimizing overtime.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor laws.
  • Prepare forecasts and budgets as required locally, by head office, or under the management agreement.
  • Review the hotel’s cash position daily to optimize the use of funds.
  • Ensure that gains/losses on the sale or disposal of fixed assets are properly disclosed and recorded in the statement of changes in financial position (SR-25, where applicable) and in the income statement.
  • For sites maintaining full balance sheets including fixed assets, ensure that accumulated depreciation accounts are accurate and properly recorded.
  • Continuously seek out and develop new business opportunities that benefit the hotel.
