Director of Business Development

About The Position

Wright Family Law Group is seeking a Director of Business Development to manage the firm's community presence and referral sources. This role involves building relationships with professionals such as realtors, financial advisors, CPAs, estate planners, therapists, and mediators. A unique aspect of the role includes driving and showcasing a 1970 Cadillac hearse, named Morticia, at various events as a conversation starter and brand identifier. The position is ideal for someone who prefers external engagement over desk work and is diligent in following up on connections made. Wright Family Law Group represents families during difficult life transitions like divorce and custody issues, focusing on outstanding legal work and exceptional client experience. The firm values professionalism, high standards, and a collaborative environment, free from ego and office politics. The marketing efforts are established, with an active event calendar, professional content support, and strong community recognition. This role is part of an ongoing growth initiative, not a new one from scratch.

Requirements

  • Genuinely good with people and genuinely disciplined about follow-through.
  • Comfortable walking into a room where you know nobody and leaving with three real conversations.
  • Organized in a system, not in your head. If it is not logged and followed up, it did not happen.
  • Reliable without supervision. You will set your own week, and we will know how it went by what you produce.
  • Warm, professional, and unembarrassed about family law.
  • Available evenings and occasional weekends, because that is when the events are.
  • Willing to drive, park, and be the face of a 1970 Cadillac hearse at a street festival in July.
  • Can work at least 30 hours per week.
  • Three or more years in business development, outside sales, community relations, or professional referral development.
  • A track record you can describe: relationships you built and what they produced.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable with contact management tools. We use Blinq and Lawmatics; if you have used anything similar you will be fine.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout the territory.

Nice To Haves

  • Vintage vehicle experience is a plus, and training on Morticia is provided.
  • Legal, financial services, real estate, or healthcare industry experience is a plus, not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the firm at chamber events, referral network meetings, community festivals, and professional association gatherings across our territory.
  • Build and work a referral network of realtors, financial advisors, CPAs, estate planners, therapists, and mediators, and hold regular one-to-one meetings with them.
  • Own the business development calendar: research events, register in advance, plan the week, and make sure the firm is where it should be.
  • Drive Morticia to shows and events, handle her logistics and scheduling, and capture the photos and video our marketing team turns into content.
  • Log every contact you make and follow up within 24 hours, every time.
  • Turn contacts into one-to-ones, and one-to-ones into referred consultations for our attorneys.
  • Recommend which chamber and association memberships are worth the firm's money, based on what they actually produce.
  • Report weekly to the COO on who you met, what you committed to, and what is coming.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $25 - $30
  • A firm with an established brand, real marketing behind you, and a team that supports the work
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Mileage and event expenses covered
  • Sales and industry training so you can speak intelligently about what we do
  • Direct access to firm leadership, with no layers between you and the people making decisions
  • A genuinely unusual and fun brand to represent
