About The Position

The Director of Dining Services will oversee dining operations serving 2,500 students across five schools in the Orinda Union School District. The role leads an Executive Chef and up to 16 associates, partners closely with district leadership, and reports to the Area Director. The Director will build relationships, implement systems, drive accountability, and foster a positive, student-focused culture centered on healthy food and engaging cafeteria experiences. The role also brings culinary and student programs such as Mood Boost, Discovery Kitchen, Global Eats, Student Choice, and Nutrition Game On to life. This is a Monday–Friday leadership role with no nights, weekends, or holidays. The position is responsible for account financial performance and client relationships, supporting high-quality and nutritious food, and coordinating culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams.

Requirements

Three or more years of food service management experience.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Financial acumen and strong business intuition.
Confident, well-spoken professional with strong command presence and a sense of ownership.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in Management, Hospitality, Culinary, or Nutrition; additional food service management experience.
K-12 dining experience.

Responsibilities

Oversee all profit-and-loss matters and budgeting for the account.
Maintain excellent relationships with the client.
Work with the team to create nutritious, high-quality food for students.
Implement new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary teams.
Act as a liaison between Chartwells, the client, and the community.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the dining services operation.
Lead an Executive Chef and up to 16 associates and partner with district leadership.
Build relationships, implement systems, drive accountability, and foster a positive culture for employees and students.
