Director, Customer Value Engineering

Planview Incorporated•UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE

About The Position

The Director, Customer Value Engineering (U.S.) leads and develops Planview’s U.S. CVE team, contributes to global CVE strategy and standards as part of the global leadership team, and translates agreed direction into effective U.S. execution. The role owns U.S. coverage and routine day-to-day decisions, scaling impact through coaching and selective field engagement rather than personally carrying every opportunity. The team supports complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise opportunities across Planview’s broad product portfolio and engages executive sponsors, business leaders, and technical stakeholders. The Director coaches CVEs in their work with Account Executives, who own opportunities, forecasts, commercial strategy, and customer relationships. The role partners with Professional Services before close to validate feasibility and clarify intended outcomes and assumptions, and with Customer Value Advisors to support continuity into adoption, renewal readiness, and expansion. The Director also ensures CVEs bring customer problems, affected stakeholders, business impact, use cases, and value evidence to Product and strategic partners.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in Customer Value Engineering, Value Engineering, Solution Consulting, presales, technical consulting, enterprise SaaS, management consulting, or a related customer-facing discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing customer-facing technical or value-oriented professionals, with accountability for performance and growth.
  • Strong technical foundation to assess solution fit across a broad product portfolio, coach technical validation and customer-centered demonstrations, and engage selectively in complex customer situations.
  • Understanding of work and resource management, portfolio planning, enterprise agile, value stream management, or related transformation domains, or the ability to learn them quickly.
  • Track record guiding complex enterprise opportunities through discovery, technical validation, executive engagement, and customer investment decisions while connecting customer needs to measurable outcomes and realistic delivery paths.
  • Experience defining and using measures to improve individual and team performance, evaluate sales plays, and guide coverage and resource allocation.
  • Strong commercial judgment, executive communication, and cross-functional influence, with the ability to delegate, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and develop accountable teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the CVE team by setting expectations, inspecting customer work, and building technical and value skills, career growth, and shared practices.
  • Contribute U.S. customer and field evidence to global CVE strategy, standards, and measures; recommend improvements and translate agreed direction into practical U.S. execution.
  • Own U.S. coverage, prioritization, and routine resource decisions, aligning capacity to qualified opportunities based on strategic value, complexity, partner involvement, and delivery risk; escalate material cross-region or global tradeoffs.
  • Coach CVEs to translate customer priorities into clear problem statements, value hypotheses, measurable outcomes, and evidence plans for executive, business, and technical stakeholders.
  • Set expectations for decision-criteria-led solution validation, demonstrations, workshops, and proofs of value; assess technical and value fit, surface gaps and risks, and help teams build decision-ready opportunities with credible evidence and feasible delivery paths.
  • Provide technical coaching across Planview’s portfolio and selectively model technical discovery, validation, or purposeful demonstrations in strategic or complex engagements without becoming the default deal owner.
  • Preserve customer outcomes, assumptions, and value evidence through implementation handoffs and ongoing value realization; clarify lifecycle accountabilities with Professional Services and Customer Value Advisors and intervene when risk or complexity warrants.
  • Establish performance-review cadence and measures for individual and team effectiveness, sales-play impact, engagement quality, resource allocation, and customer and commercial outcomes; partner with Revenue Operations to set baselines and use data to guide improvement.
  • Turn recurring customer evidence, value patterns, and objections into improvements to team enablement, engagement practices, and global standards.
