About The Position

The Medical Director plays a crucial role in the team by managing veterinarians, ensuring they provide professional and quality service while adhering to the company's values. They implement exemplary medical practices in collaboration with the regional medical director. To hold this position, a minimum of 24 hours per week must be worked as a veterinarian in the same establishment where the Medical Director role is held. The allocated time for this task is 4-8 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Be a veterinarian (5 years of experience in general veterinary medicine is an asset).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the hiring process for veterinarians.
  • Supervise the onboarding and integration of new veterinarians, ensuring adequate training.
  • Plan and conduct performance appraisals for team members during probation and periodic evaluations.
  • Contribute to the development of veterinarian schedules.
  • Manage daily team operations, including floor supervision and addressing questions.
  • Train and motivate key team members and manage succession planning.
  • Coordinate team vacation schedules.
  • Work with veterinarians to address client complaints of a medical nature.
  • Identify training needs and plan training sessions to update team skills and stay current with new technologies, in collaboration with the territorial medical director (DMT).
  • Promote adherence to exemplary medical practices by all team members.
  • Develop and modify protocols for the smooth operation of the team.
  • Plan, lead, and follow up on team meetings, ensuring all information is communicated.
  • Manage the pharmacy/medications.
  • Identify and direct medical operations plans to ensure continuous progress and improvement.
  • Support VCA Canada's regional initiatives.
