About The Position

GHD is seeking a Project Director to join its Environmental Assessment and Contaminated Site Rehabilitation group. The incumbent ensures leadership in the delivery and governance of a project portfolio within a program. This role ensures the application of a structured project management framework integrating quality assurance and control (QA/QC), regulatory compliance, document management, and verifiable deliverable approval in daily project activities. Our work environment is based on a hybrid model that fosters both in-person collaboration and flexibility. We require a presence in the office three days a week to contribute, collaborate, and excel within our dynamic team. This position can be based in one of our Montreal (Downtown, Saint-Laurent), Laval, Brossard, or Quebec City offices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in directing complex or high-risk projects in highly regulated environments.
  • Excellent understanding of project governance, quality assurance, verification processes, and document controls.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams as well as suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Strong planning, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Experience with tools aligned with PMBOK principles, such as communication and deliverable plans, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based planning, and structured project status reviews.
  • Experience with integrated data pipelines and dashboards supporting compliance and performance visibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Sciences, or any other relevant field.
  • Hold an engineer's license from the Ordre des ingénieurs (OIQ) or a geologist's license from the Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ).
  • Over 10 years of experience in environmental consulting, including contaminated site rehabilitation and site environmental assessments, report writing, data management and interpretation, project coordination, and client relationship management.
  • Hold the ASP Construction card (Quebec).
  • The ability and willingness to travel to attend client meetings is required.
  • Experience within high-volume, recurring programs where standardization and automation are used to increase efficiency.
  • Good knowledge of analytical dashboards and data management practices supporting compliance monitoring and decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with key internal and external clients in the Eastern Canada team, and Canadian and global teams on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Approve project planning and ensure execution tailored to needs (scope, schedule, resources, risks, and stakeholder communications).
  • Lead monthly project health reviews to confirm regulatory compliance, schedule adherence, technical progress, risk management, and subcontractor performance; assign corrective actions and ensure their documented closure.
  • Manage documentation and project traceability: track deliverables, record incoming and outgoing transmissions, and monitor revisions for key documents (plans, analytical data, reports, submissions, meeting minutes, and corrective actions).
  • Ensure communication plans, reporting requirements, and deadline control mechanisms are defined from the initiation and planning phases and actively monitored throughout the project.
  • Oversee supplier and subcontractor governance, including the use of pre-qualified suppliers, review of work plans and procedures, and validation of verification processes according to deliverable requirements.
  • Enforce verification and quality requirements for deliverables before external use; ensure technical reviews and management approvals are completed and documented in the project space.
  • Collaborate with the program manager on issues requiring escalation, decision-making authority, and alignment with program governance and performance indicators.
  • Promote a culture focused on health and safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, where controls are integrated into processes rather than added afterward.

Benefits

  • Commitment to tooling all staff to create positive impacts.
  • Opportunity to work on complex challenges facing the planet.
  • Commitment to individual achievements and a diverse workforce.
  • Commitment to providing reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities throughout the recruitment and selection process.
