About The Position

GHD is seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager to provide leadership, governance, and quality assurance for complex environmental programs related to upstream oil and gas projects. This role is for an experienced individual who has demonstrated the ability to deliver compliant, rigorous, repeatable, and well-documented projects for clients. In this role, you will contribute to implementing a structured project delivery framework that integrates quality assurance and quality control, regulatory compliance, documentation, and verifiable approval of deliverables into daily activities. As a Senior Project Manager, you will act as a trusted advisor to clients, working at the intersection of technical delivery, regulatory compliance, and program governance. You have a strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations, consent orders, and remediation criteria, and you know how to integrate quality assurance, verification, and documentation controls from the outset so that compliance is an integral part of project execution. To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate judgment, agility, and leadership to guide multidisciplinary teams in complex or ambiguous contexts, while maintaining timelines, deliverable quality, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing complex or high-risk projects in regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, assurance and verification processes, and documentary controls.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent planning, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Experience with tools aligned with PMBOK principles, such as communication and deliverable plan templates, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)-based planning, and structured project status reviews.
  • Experience with integrated data pipelines and dashboards to support compliance and provide visibility on performance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of environmental consulting experience related to the upstream oil and gas sector, including environmental rehabilitation, site assessments, report writing, data management and interpretation, project coordination, and client relationship management.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of the California environmental regulatory framework.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to meet clients, as needed.
  • Experience in recurring, high-volume programs where standardization and automation are leveraged to improve efficiency.
  • Familiarity with analytical dashboards and data management practices that support compliance tracking and decision-making.

Nice To Haves

  • Holding (or in the process of obtaining) an engineering license from the Ordre des ingénieurs (OIQ) or a geologist license from the Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ) will be considered an asset.
  • Holding the ASP Construction card.

Responsibilities

  • Approve project planning and ensure execution tailored to needs, including scope, schedule, resources, risks, and stakeholder communications.
  • Lead monthly project status reviews to confirm regulatory status, schedule adherence, technical progress, risks, and subcontractor performance; assign corrective actions and document their closure.
  • Ensure documentation and traceability of deliverables: ensure results are tracked, issued and received transmittals are logged, and revision tracking is maintained for key deliverables such as plans, analytical data sets, reports, submitted documents, meeting minutes, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure communications, approvals, and deadline tracking are defined from the initiation and planning stages, and then actively monitored to meet reporting obligations on time.
  • Oversee vendor and subcontractor governance, including the use of pre-qualified vendors, review of work plans and procedures, and verification mechanisms in line with deliverable requirements.
  • Enforce deliverable verification and quality requirements before any external use; ensure verification and reviews by competent persons, as well as approval by the manager, are completed and well-documented in the project workspace.
  • Collaborate with the program manager for escalations, decision-making authority, and alignment with program governance and performance indicators.
  • Promote a culture focused on health and safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, where controls are integrated into ways of working rather than being an afterthought.

Benefits

  • Hybrid work policy: GHD fosters a hybrid work model that combines in-person collaboration and flexibility. You will be invited to work in the office three days a week to contribute, collaborate, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Encourages individual achievements and recognizes the strength of a diverse workforce.
  • GHD is an equal opportunity employer.
  • GHD will provide reasonable accommodations for disabled candidates throughout the recruitment and selection process upon request.
