About The Position

ACLD is seeking Direct Support Professionals to work in a residential setting, assisting adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities to become more self-sufficient and self-actualized. The role supports people in achieving personal goals, provides structure and emotional support, assists with behavioral issues and personal hygiene, and includes accurate documentation. Staff transport program participants to medical appointments and recreational activities using Agency vehicles. Cooking and light housekeeping may also be required. Training is provided for this entry-level healthcare/education career opportunity. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Clean, valid New York State driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate and understand English verbally and in writing.
• Must obtain and maintain AMAP and SCIP certifications.
• Ability to perform SCIP maneuvers that may require bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, lying on the ground, and supporting another person’s body weight.
• Ability to reach, bend, twist, kneel, and squat while assisting people with physical activities.
• Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Some experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred; training will be provided.
• Prior experience as a caregiver, care assistant, personal assistant, resident assistant, direct care worker, nursing assistant, home care aide, or companion is a plus.
