Direct Support Professional- FT Morning
About The Position
ACLD is seeking a Direct Support Professional to work in a residential setting supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role helps people supported become more self-sufficient and self-actualized, and supports them in pursuing and achieving personal goals. This is an entry-level opportunity in the healthcare and education field; training is available. The position is scheduled Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., for 40 hours per week. Duties include providing structure and emotional support, assisting with personal hygiene and behavioral issues, maintaining accurate documentation, and transporting participants in agency vehicles to medical appointments and recreational activities. Cooking and light housekeeping may also be required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Clean, valid New York State driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate and understand English verbally and in writing.
- Must obtain and maintain AMAP and SCIP certifications.
- Ability to perform SCIP maneuvers that may require bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, lying on the ground, and supporting another person’s body weight.
- Ability to reach, bend, twist, kneel, and squat while assisting people with physical activities.
- Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person and lift up to 15 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Some experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; training is available.
- Prior experience as a caregiver, care assistant, personal assistant, resident assistant, direct care worker, nursing assistant, home care aide, or companion.
Responsibilities

- Complete detailed, accurate documentation.
- Transport program participants to and from medical appointments and recreational activities using agency vehicles.
