About The Position

1:1 Part-Time Support Staff Needed – Syracuse, NY (PL - DH). A 20-year-old male in the Eastwood area is looking for a Direct Support Professional to assist him at home. He is looking for assistance with getting off his school bus and keeping busy at home and sometimes in the community. He spends most of his days at school. When home, he enjoys playing with toys that make noise like music, vibration, and lights. He enjoys taking car rides and being around others. He is non-verbal but communicates through facial expressions and movements. He would like to go to parks, enjoy nature, and visit libraries. The ideal candidate is creative and engaging, active and patient, and willing to travel to different locations. The ideal candidate must be willing to learn about different movement and facial expressions as a form of communication. The ideal candidate must also be willing to provide personal care when needed, be able to lift him, and push a wheelchair around. This is a part-time position, but additional hours are available with other people receiving services at the agency. Monday – Friday 2:30 PM - 7:00 PM, flexible with days. Respite: Starting pay is $19.25/hour and increases with years of relevant experience.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work independently in the person’s home and/or community.
• Reliable with effective communication and organizational skills.
• New York State Driver's license.
• Reliable transportation.
• Proof of auto insurance.
• Acceptable driving record.
• Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community.
• Effective communication and organizational skills required.
• Flexibility with assignments and schedule required.
• Reliable transportation to arrive at the job site at the scheduled time.
• Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by Indera's technology policy.

• Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
• Experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with getting off the school bus.
• Keep the individual busy at home and sometimes in the community.
• Engage in activities such as playing with toys that make noise, music, vibration, and lights.
• Accompany the individual on car rides.
• Facilitate community outings to parks, nature, and libraries.
• Provide personal care when needed.
• Lift the individual.
