About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides overall support and care to individuals served by Skill Creations, Inc., including individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and secondary mental health or substance abuse issues. The DSP works in an individual’s home and/or in a community setting, providing one-to-one or group care according to each person’s needs and plan of care.

Duties may include personal care, behavioral support, medication administration, job coaching and assistance, and support with independent living skills. The DSP also provides educational opportunities in communication and recreation or leisure. The listed schedule is Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Starting pay is $16.00 per hour; the posting also notes that pay for full- and part-time DSP positions depends on the service provided, and backup/PRN positions pay $16.00 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited school.
• Prompt and regular attendance for the assigned work schedule.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Successful completion of coursework in CPR/First Aid and Behavior Management is required.
• Basic computer skills for email, electronic training modules, and recording data.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to occasionally balance, bend, stoop, and kneel.
• Ability to remain on one’s feet most of the time.
• Ability to meet individual client-specific needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall support and care to individuals receiving services from Skill Creations, Inc.
• Provide one-to-one or group care in an individual’s home and/or in a community setting, according to the individual’s needs and plan of care.
• Assist with personal care, behavioral support, and medication administration as needed.
• Provide job coaching and assistance and support with independent living skills as needed.
• Provide educational opportunities in communication and recreation or leisure.
• Attend work regularly and promptly for the assigned schedule, including during inclement weather and some holidays.
• Record data using basic computer skills.
