About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) advocates for and supports adults aged 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to be as active in their lives as possible. DSPs act as caregivers within group homes, assisting with various daily living needs such as household maintenance, meal preparation, shopping, bathing, toileting, dressing, and teeth brushing. They also assist individuals with medical appointments, banking, community integration, outings, medication administration, and adherence to Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans, and medical guidelines. DSPs receive paid training including New Employee Orientation, CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), as well as program and person-specific training. They must be able to safely evacuate individuals from the home in emergencies and maintain certifications while complying with Agency policies and DDS regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or G.E.D.
  • Must be 21+ years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be available by telephone for daily contact
  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
  • Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team

Responsibilities

  • Follow medical guidelines that are in place
  • Safely evacuate individuals from the home in the event of an emergency
  • Maintain certifications
  • Handle job related duties in compliance with Agency policies
  • Follow all DDS regulations/policies
