About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to be as active in their lives as possible. This role acts as a caregiver within a group home, assisting with various daily living activities and community integration. DSPs receive paid training, including New Employee Orientation, CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP), as well as program and person-specific training. They must maintain certifications, comply with Agency policies, and follow all DDS regulations and medical guidelines.

Requirements

  • Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
  • Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
  • Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team
  • High School Degree or G.E.D.
  • Must be 21+ years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be available by telephone for daily contact

Responsibilities

  • Advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities

  • Acting as a caregiver for the individual within the group home
  • Assisting with household maintenance within the group home
  • Assisting with meal prep
  • Assisting with shopping
  • Assisting with bathing, toileting, dressing, teeth brushing
  • Assisting individuals to their medical appointments
  • Assisting with banking
  • Assisting individuals to become active members of their community
  • Attending outings
  • Administering medications
  • Following Behavior Support Plans, Individual Support Plans and goals
  • Following medical guidelines that are in place
  • Maintaining certifications
  • Handling job related duties in compliance with Agency policies
  • Following all DDS regulations/policies
  • Safely evacuating individuals from the home in the event of an emergency
