About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for advocating and supporting adults 22 and over with intellectual and developmental disabilities, empowering them to be as active in their lives as possible. This includes assistance with daily living activities, medical appointments, banking, community integration, medication administration, and following various support plans and medical guidelines. DSP workers receive paid New Employee Orientation, paid CPR/First Aid, PABC, Defensive Driving, and Medication Administration Program (MAP) training, as well as program and person-specific training at the individuals’ homes. DSPs must maintain certifications and comply with Agency policies and DDS regulations.
Requirements
- Commitment to assisting people with varying disabilities to participate fully in their community and in their own lives
- Varied interests and personal connections in the local community
- Proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, volunteer or school history)
- Ability to work as a creative, engaged, dedicated member of the team
- 21+ years of age
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver’s license
- High School Diploma or GED
- Possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job
- Ability to speak, read, and write in fluent English
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and individuals supported, which may include holidays, overnights, or double-shifts

- Assisting with teeth brushing
- Assisting individuals to their medical appointments
- Assisting with banking
- Assisting individuals to become active members of their community
- Attending outings
- Administering medications
- Following Behavior Support Plans
- Following Individual Support Plans and goals
- Following medical guidelines that are in place
- Safely evacuating individuals from the home in the event of an emergency
- Maintaining certifications
- Handling job related duties in compliance with Agency policies
- Following all DDS regulations/policies
