About The Position

Alleghany Highlands Community Services provides services and support to individuals in the community with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Professional provides services to adults with intellectual disabilities in a congregate setting at Friendship House. The role uses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies designed to facilitate independence and skills acquisition.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Certification in CPR, basic First Aid, and medication administration; these certifications may be obtained upon hire.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience in a human service field.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, support, counseling, and training in activities of daily living in accordance with each individual’s service plan.
• Provide assistance and training in personal care.
• Focus on individuals’ needs and preferences; empower and support them in defining the direction of their lives; and promote self-determination, community involvement, and recovery.
• Ensure the optimal health and safety of individuals.
• Communicate changes in an individual’s status or behavior to all staff providing services to that individual.
