About The Position

The Direct Support Professional will provide support, training, and supervision to people with intellectual disabilities in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) or Community Training Home (CTH). This role involves ensuring the well-being, safety, and development of individuals by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring health, implementing training plans, and maintaining a supportive environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum age of 18.
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Ability to write the English language in a legible manner.
Ability to relate harmoniously with co-workers and families.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to complete quality work in a timely manner.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Must be capable of effective verbal and written communication with individuals served, families, co-workers and visitors.
Must be capable of moving intermittently throughout the day and performing such activities as climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, repetitive motions, standing, bending, walking, sitting and stooping.
Must be able to safely operate agency owned vehicles including driving during night hours.

Responsibilities

Provide support, training, and supervision to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Maintain professional behavior consistent with the Agency’s mission and policies.
Treat individuals with dignity and respect.
Exhibit appropriate work behavior with consumers, co-workers, families, consultants, and other professionals.
Remain on duty until relief staff arrive.
Assist consumers in maintaining safe and healthy lifestyles.
Monitor and report changes in consumers’ general health, appearance, behaviors, and patterns of activities (eating, sleeping, toileting).
Provide training and assistance in making healthy dietary choices and following medical professional orders.
Maintain individual safety and well-being, conduct safety drills/training, and evacuations.
Use adaptive supplies/equipment as prescribed.
Provide the prescribed level of supervision and accountability throughout the individual’s daily routine.
Assist with bathing, toileting, grooming, and other daily living and self-care activities using approved prompting techniques.
Follow proper lifting techniques for non-ambulatory individuals.
Record and discuss individuals’ health status with nursing staff.
Maintain a well-maintained living environment, report maintenance needs, and complete housekeeping duties.
Prepare meals and snacks according to menu and approved diets.
Plan, support, and perform skills training activities in all daily living life skill areas.
Provide naturally occurring opportunities for individuals to learn.
Keep individuals actively involved according to their active treatment plan.
Document data during formal training sessions as specified in the individual’s objectives.
Reinforce informal training throughout the individual’s daily routine.
Inform supervisor of all individual injuries at the time of occurrence and complete General Event Report (GER) in Therap.
Record understandable notes in various Therap modules and paper reports as required.
Implement Behavior Support Programs, including documentation of behavioral incidents, which may require physical intervention and MANDT techniques.
Safely transport consumers to and from activities, errands, work, and appointments, complying with vehicle safety and maintenance policies.
Operate wheelchair lifts and safety restraints as trained.
Provide medications and treatments as ordered, complete MAR, and follow procedures for disposing of expired medications.
Inform nurse of medication shortages, errors, and the need for over-the-counter medications.
Assist consumers with their finances according to Agency procedures.
Maintain a thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures and conduct self accordingly.
Attend staff meetings and complete on-going training requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of consumer information and personal passcodes.
Use electronic equipment and Agency software professionally and ethically for business purposes only.
Other duties as assigned.
Monitor Medication Administration Records (MAR) performed by staff in a CTH setting.
Complete household Purchase Orders, grocery shopping, and work orders.
Complete daily census reports in DDSN software portal in an ICF setting.
