About The Position

Firefly is hiring a Direct Support Professional (Caregiver) in Joplin, Missouri, to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in building independence, confidence, life skills, and meaningful participation in their communities. The role provides daily support aligned with each individual’s goals and Individual Support Plan (ISP), while promoting dignity, growth, and human connection. No prior experience is required; paid, comprehensive training is provided. The work can be challenging but is described as meaningful and rewarding. Employees work primarily in clients’ homes and community settings, with some travel and a variety of settings that may include public spaces and outdoors. The position is available full-time or part-time, and requires varying shifts, including weekends. Full-time employees working 30 or more hours per week are eligible for specified benefits.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer skills.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, if applicable.
Ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

Support adults with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities.
Help individuals access community resources and participate in social activities.
Provide transportation for appointments, shopping, and community outings.
Teach independent living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and money management.
Assist with daily living needs, including personal care and hygiene.
Document client progress, achievements, and milestones.
Communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
Follow each individual’s Individual Support Plan (ISP).
Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
