About The Position

In this role, the Director, Spend Management Operations will provide strategic leadership for spend management and integrated supply chain operations, partnering with healthcare clients to optimize supply chain performance, improve financial outcomes, and support high-quality patient care. The director partners with client executives, clinical leaders, finance, sourcing, suppliers, and supply chain teams to improve service levels, reduce operational variation, strengthen contract performance, and support high-quality patient care. The role requires practical hospital operations experience, strong client leadership, sound financial judgment, and the ability to turn complex supply chain opportunities into sustainable operating results. The mission of the Director, Spend Management Operations, is to ensure the procurement and flow of clinically approved supplies and services are resilient, dependable, cost effective, and clinically and administratively customer-focused.

Requirements

  • 7 or more years of healthcare supply chain leadership experience, including inventory management, procurement operations, sourcing, contracting, materials management , or integrated supply chain operations.
  • Direct experience working within hospital or health system environments and influencing supply chain decision-making processes across clinical, operational, financials, and executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale operational improvement, contract implementation, inventory optimization, standard work, or cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with clinical stakeholders, value analysis committees, finance leaders, and executive leadership teams.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare economics, reimbursement pressures, supplier market dynamics, and regulatory requirements, and operating constraints affecting provider organizations.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial performance metrics, and savings validation methodologies, service-level measures, and operational scorecards.
  • Healthcare supply chain operations expertise, including procure-to-pay, inventory, distribution, receiving, and materials management workflows.
  • Client-facing leadership, executive communication, stakeholder alignment, and practical change management.
  • Operational problem-solving using data, process discipline, root-cause analysis, and standard work.
  • Financial acumen, including cost reduction, contract utilization, savings realization, working capital, and performance reporting.
  • Ability to balance clinical service reliability, cost effectiveness, supply risk, compliance, and operational feasibility.
  • People leadership that develops capable teams, clarifies expectations, removes barriers, and reinforces accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, operational oversight, and subject matter expertise for Supply Chain Operations services across assigned client health system locations.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Vice President and other Supply Chain and client leaders to develop and implement strategies that achieve enterprise operational and financial goals.
  • Develop Supply Chain operational systems, processes, performance routines, and standard work to ensure clinicians have the services and supplies they need when they need them, and in the right quantity.
  • Lead procurement operations, inventory management, receiving, distribution, warehousing, materials management, vendor management, and product lifecycle processes in alignment with client objectives and healthcare supply chain leading practices.
  • Provide resources, coaching, and training to Supply Chain caregivers and team members so they can deliver ongoing client value through continuous financial improvement, reliable operations, and standard work.
  • Partner with executive, clinical, operational, and finance stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and execute supply chain initiatives that improve financial performance, support patient care, and reduce unnecessary operational variation.
  • Establish and maintain governance processes that support supply chain decision-making, including value analysis, clinical product review, product standardization, contract compliance, and inventory optimization.
  • Lead contract implementation and change management efforts to support adoption, compliance, savings realization, service reliability, and achievement of operational performance targets.
  • Analyze spend, utilization, inventory, procurement, and operational data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, working capital optimization, and stronger supply chain performance.
  • Collaborate with sourcing teams, suppliers, and client stakeholders to implement solutions that address organizational goals, market challenges, supply risk, and client-specific operational needs.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to client supply chain leadership by providing practical recommendations informed by healthcare operations, supplier market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and performance data.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean methods, process redesign, benchmarking, performance measurement, automation, and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Oversee supplier performance management activities, including service-level monitoring, issue resolution, risk mitigation, escalation management, and strategic supplier relationship development.
  • Lead complex cross-functional projects and operational initiatives, including scope definition, timelines, resources, risks, stakeholder communication, change management, and expected outcomes.
  • Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators, scorecards, and executive-level updates that measure operational effectiveness, contract performance, inventory health, customer service, and financial results.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, disciplined execution, and continuous professional growth.
  • Support client retention, strategic growth, and business development efforts by contributing subject matter expertise, operational insight, and credible healthcare supply chain leadership.
