About The Position

The intern will join the Manufacturing IT team at the Concord Plant, working with engineers and technicians who manage, modify, and develop control systems and supporting software used in optical fiber manufacturing. This opportunity provides hands-on experience with plant systems, software development, troubleshooting, and cross-functional improvement initiatives. The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Requirements

  • Student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Analytics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, processes, and business concepts quickly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and willing to take initiative and learn.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location

Nice To Haves

  • Programming coursework or experience in C, Visual Basic, .NET, C#, VB.NET, or similar languages.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and IT teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support management, modification, and development of control systems used in optical fiber manufacturing.
  • Develop or modify software that supports manufacturing, including web-based or stand-alone applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to understand needs and implement improvements.
  • Assist with troubleshooting software, control system, and manufacturing technology issues.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, testing, documentation, and implementation.
  • Support analysis of system performance and identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Document technical solutions, configurations, and project outcomes.
  • Communicate progress, findings, and recommendations to technical and business partners.
