About The Position

The Digital Communications Specialist supports the Tax Collector’s Office by creating, managing, and optimizing digital content that informs, educates, and engages residents, taxpayers, and business owners. This role ensures that digital communication channels, including websites, social media, email platforms, online service portals, and internal communication tools, deliver clear, accurate, and accessible information consistent with state statutes, county policies, and the Tax Collector’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, journalism, public administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–4 years of experience in digital communications, content creation, or public information (government or public service preferred).
  • Proficiency in content management systems, social media tools, graphic design platforms, and analytics dashboards.
  • Strong writing, editing, and visual communication skills with the ability to translate complex information clearly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG) and best practices for public-sector digital communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to fast-paced, high-visibility situations.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Driver Licenses Examiners must meet the background standards outlined in Florida Statute 435.04, and Federal Regulations 384.228 and 1572.103. This includes, but is not limited to, not having any criminal convictions for alcohol or drug-related offenses within 10 years prior to employment and maintaining this throughout employment.

  • Experience with video production, photography, or basic graphic design is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, publish, and maintain digital content across official agency channels (website, social media, email newsletters, digital signage, etc.).
  • Translate complex tax collection information into clear, user-friendly digital content.
  • Support public awareness campaigns related to property taxes, motor services, business tax receipts, appointments, fraud prevention, office closures, and service updates.
  • Monitor digital performance analytics and recommend improvements to content strategy, accessibility, and public engagement.
  • Manage day-to-day updates to the website, ensuring accuracy, ADA compliance, and intuitive navigation.
  • Create digital graphics, informational posts, short videos, and other media aligned with agency brand standards.
  • Assist in crisis or emergency communications by rapidly updating digital platforms with accurate, actionable information.
  • Collaborate with operational divisions to ensure digital messaging is consistent with service procedures and current statutes.
  • Support internal communications by developing materials for staff portals, announcements, and training resources.
  • Maintain content calendars, adhere to communication timelines, and ensure digital assets remain up to date.
  • Monitor community feedback, social media comments, and emerging issues; escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Ensure all digital content reflects professionalism, transparency, and a customer-centric public-service approach.
