About The Position

The Diet Clerk is responsible for patient menu management, data collection, and diet office functions as needed, under the direction of the Patient Services Manager and/or Clinical Nutrition Manager. The role supports patient nutrition services by helping patients select meals that comply with prescribed diets and by preparing and distributing nutrition products accurately and on time. The position is part time at Palm Bay Hospital in Palm Bay, Florida, with shifts of 8 to 4 hours between 11:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Days may vary, and some weekends are required.

Requirements

• Hospital or customer service experience is required.
• Qualified candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Distribute and collect menus.
• Assist patients with menu selections that comply with prescribed diets, as assigned by a dietitian.
• Offer permitted menu alternatives in accordance with prescribed diets and accommodate food allergies or sensitivities and cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences when patients ask or need additional selections.
• Plan regular and modified menus based on the current diet manual.
• Prepare and distribute supplements, tube feedings, and enteral formula accurately and on time.
• May prepare, distribute, inventory, and manage human/donor milk and/or infant formula.
• Follow facility confidentiality, HIPAA, and patient rights policies.
• Comply with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state, and TJC standards.
• Complete required documentation, reports, and logs.
• Follow facility and department infection-control policies and procedures.
• Participate in facility-wide and department Performance Improvement Programs and teams to improve processes and patient care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
