About The Position

Under the direction of the dietitian, the Diet Clerk performs clinical support tasks related to reviewing and approving therapeutic menu selections. The role helps ensure patient trays are accurate and served at appropriate temperatures. The Diet Clerk also supports accurate diet orders, meal selections, dietary records, and communication among nursing units, dietitians, and kitchen staff.

Requirements

• County-specific Food Handlers certification is required upon hire and must be maintained current.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree in Food Science or Nutrition preferred.
• One year of healthcare experience working with modified diets preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and update physician diet orders in the hospital’s EHR to ensure each patient receives meals matching their prescribed diet.
• Assist patients with menu selections, print and distribute menus, and make substitutions when necessary.
• Communicate diet changes, allergies, and preferences between nursing units, dietitians, and kitchen staff.
• Enter and maintain meal orders, admissions, and discharges in the dietary computer system to keep records accurate.
• Ensure diet accuracy, follow food safety standards, and support quality checks within the nutrition department.
• Perform clinical support functions related to approving therapeutic menu selections and ensuring patient trays are accurate and served at appropriate temperatures.
