About The Position

Mesquite Rehabilitation Institute in Mesquite, Texas, is seeking a Diet Aide to join its patient-care team. The institute provides inpatient rehabilitation for people recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic surgeries. Patient care includes personalized physical, occupational, and speech therapy delivered by an interdisciplinary team.

The Diet Aide assists with meal service for patients, visitors, and staff and may handle food preparation and portioning, meal delivery, food-stock inspection, and cleaning. The role maintains sanitary food-handling and work-area practices and integrates the hospital’s mission and Guiding Principles into daily work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent in education or experience.
• Food Handlers license.
• Knowledge of patient diets, safe food-handling requirements, and use of the Nutritional Care Manual.
• Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection-control standards.
• Effective organizational and time-management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.

Nice To Haves

• Patient-related service experience preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in serving meals to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Unpack and visually inspect food stock.
• Prepare, pour, and portion food.
• Carry trays, pots, and other items.
• Deliver meals to patients.
• Maintain a sanitary work environment and follow food-handling practices.
• Clean the work-station area and equipment.
• Wash dishes, pots, silverware, and other items.
• Integrate the hospital’s mission and Guiding Principles into daily practice.
