About The Position

The Diesel Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of diesel generators and associated fuel systems to ensure continuous and reliable power supply across AUB and AUBMC facilities, particularly during power outages and emergency situations. The role requires working on a rotating shift basis, including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Requirements

  • Completion of intermediate education or BT 3. Plus 4 years of technical certification or vocational training in mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in generator operation or a similar role.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic technical troubleshooting and fault identification.
  • Reliability and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to established safety procedures.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and respond effectively during emergencies.
  • Good team coordination and collaboration skills.
  • Fair working knowledge of English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in hospitals or other critical facilities is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operates diesel generators (Start/ stop and adjust system parameters), during power outages and testing cycles.
  • Monitors generator and auxiliary equipment to ensure continuous power supply.
  • Ensures smooth transition between utility power and backup systems.
  • Records operating data such as load levels, fuel consumption, temperature and pressure readings.
  • Carries out safe and efficient changeover of medium voltage switchgears, ensuring continuity of power supply and adherence to safety standards.
  • Conducts routine checks and intervene as required on: Fuel levels and fuel systems, Oil, coolant, and battery systems, Generator condition and alarms.
  • Detects and troubleshoots mechanical or electrical faults and report abnormalities and coordinate with maintenance teams.
  • Assists in preventive maintenance activities for generators.
  • Supports troubleshooting and basic corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with technicians and contractors for major repairs.
  • Monitors fuel consumption and storage levels.
  • Ensures proper handling, storage, and safety of diesel fuel.
  • Supports logistics related to fuel supply during extended outages.
  • Responds promptly during power outages and emergency situations.
  • Ensures continuous generator operation in critical facilities (especially AUBMC).
  • Coordinates with EUU teams for system stability and reliability.
  • Follows safety procedures for diesel operation and fuel handling.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintains logs and operational records.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
