About The Position

WM is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles and equipment that support the communities it serves. The role works with diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks, using modern tools and procedures to perform maintenance and repairs. The position is based at WM’s Grand Rapids, Michigan hauling site in a repair and maintenance shop, with work both indoors and outdoors.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with no weekends. Starting pay is $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience. The position offers a $1,500 sign-on bonus, tool allowance reimbursement up to $1,500, boot allowance up to $250, healthcare coverage beginning on day one, education assistance, a company-matched 401(k), adoption assistance, and parent support.

Requirements

• Two years of relevant work experience.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be over 18 years of age.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
• Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and new parts.
• Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
• Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
• Perform safety checks on vehicles.
• Complete required paperwork, document parts usage, and account for repair times.
• Assist senior mechanics with project work.
• Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards, and perform work according to established safety procedures.
