About The Position

Riley Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic / Shop Foreman to join their team. This position combines hands-on mechanical work with shop leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment while overseeing daily shop operations, assigning work, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Candidates must be able to pass a DOT physical and meet all company hiring requirements. The ideal candidate is a skilled mechanic, strong leader, effective communicator, and team-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, including marijuana testing.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, trailers, heavy equipment, and repair procedures.
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate employees.
  • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties associated with vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 5 years of diesel mechanic experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a leadership, lead mechanic, foreman, or supervisory role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functionality and safe operation.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions efficiently and accurately.
  • Complete and maintain detailed repair, maintenance, and diagnostic reports.
  • Conduct routine inspections, including oil changes, tire rotations, and scheduled maintenance services.
  • Perform test drives and operational checks to verify repairs and equipment performance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and industry standards.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of mechanics and shop personnel.
  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work orders to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs.
  • Monitor the quality of repairs and maintenance work to ensure company standards are met.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to shop employees.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and support technicians with difficult repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor shop productivity and communicate progress, delays, and equipment status to management.
  • Conduct equipment and facility inspections to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Coordinate parts ordering and inventory management to minimize downtime and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
  • Assist with employee performance evaluations and provide feedback to management regarding staffing and training needs.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.
  • Respond to field service needs and provide support when necessary.
