Diesel Maintenance Helper - Mine Maintenance
About The Position
The Diesel Maintenance Helper supports mine maintenance operations at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci open-pit copper mining complex in Arizona. The role assists with safe maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and its systems, performs preventative maintenance, completes work orders and maintenance records, and helps maintain clean and safe work areas. The position may also involve operating forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment. Morenci is approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona. Employees required to work on-site may qualify for a $750 monthly housing allowance, subject to program guidelines. Candidates may be required to pass a medical examination and all required training or testing. The operation runs 24/7, 365 days a year, and employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift.
Requirements
- Understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
- Communicate in English regarding job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
- Complete required academic and practical competencies, including Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where applicable, and demonstrate the required aptitude and ability to apply knowledge and skills.
- Pass a written assessment where required; the assessment may cover skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
- Pass required training and/or testing.
- May be required to pass a medical exam.
- Comply with mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as allowed by applicable laws.
Nice To Haves

- Previous experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
Responsibilities
- Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including haul trucks, water trucks, rubber-tire and track dozers, front-end loaders, and motor graders.
- Assist mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives, and other heavy-equipment systems or components.
- Assist with and perform preventative maintenance activities on heavy equipment.
- Complete work orders and other maintenance documentation.
- Perform housekeeping duties and work-area checks.
- May operate forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
