Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic
About The Position
This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a wide range of vehicles and equipment used by the agency. The work supports safe operations and dependable performance across the fleet. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Repair: Repair vehicles, equipment, and major parts such as brakes, clutches, and transmissions Preventative Work: Carry out routine maintenance tasks including tune ups, tire changes, and system adjustments State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections, apply stickers, and record inspection results Diagnostics: Identify problems using diagnostic tools and select correct procedures and parts for repairs Small Equipment Care: Maintain and repair motorized hand tools including chain saws, compressors, and trimmers Safety Practices: Keep work areas safe, report hazards, and take steps to prevent injuries.
Requirements
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
- Active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations at time of application.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
Nice To Haves
- Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- This position requires the employee to obtain a Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
