Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period
  • An active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application
  • Ability to obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period
  • Ability to perform essential job functions
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul trucks, cars, tractors, sweepers, mixers, and loaders
  • Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, tire changes, and repairs to cooling, electrical, heating, and suspension systems
  • Conduct safety and emissions inspections, complete paperwork, and ensure vehicles meet specifications
  • Identify equipment issues and determine repairs, tools, and parts needed
  • Maintain a clean work area, report hazards, and use proper protective equipment
  • Make routine adjustments, demonstrate repair techniques, and assist other mechanics with major repairs
