Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on diesel and gasoline-powered equipment.
• Fix and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment including brakes, engines, transmissions, and electrical components.
• Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, tune-ups, and adjustments to keep equipment in safe working condition.
• Perform official safety and emissions inspections, complete records, and road test vehicles.
• Identify problems using diagnostic tools and repair motorized hand equipment such as chain saws, compressors, and jack hammers.
• Maintain a clean workspace, follow safety procedures, use protective equipment, and report injuries or accidents immediately.
• Make minor repairs and adjustments in the field, demonstrate repair techniques, and assist other mechanics with major work.
