This position supports the upkeep and repair of construction equipment, trucks and automobiles within the Cumberland County Maintenance Organization. The work focuses on diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment ; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License at time of application.
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
  • Employee to obtain an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at time of application.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1 or 4 Inspection Mechanic Certification at time of application.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics and tune-ups
  • Maintain hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems
  • Perform official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required paperwork
  • Repair and maintain motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged parts
  • Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and maintain a clean work environment
