Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application
  • Ability to perform essential job functions

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by the end of the probationary period

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment components
  • Carry out tune-ups, diagnostics, inspections, and system adjustments on vehicles and machinery
  • Perform official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
  • Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment and determine proper repair methods
  • Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or equipment damage
  • Support other mechanics with major repairs and demonstrate techniques to coworkers
