This position will give you the opportunity to train with experienced staff while working on important equipment. Requirements

  • Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; or Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed on the first day of employment.
  • Possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 4 or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
  • Obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission within the six-month probationary period.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Possess a basic set of tools, as a requirement to perform their job duties.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with repairs and overhauls of cars, trucks, and construction equipment
  • Learn and participate in preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment
  • Help identify equipment problems using diagnostic tools and established procedures
  • Take part in safety and emissions inspection activities and related documentation when applicable
  • Learn proper safety procedures, hazard recognition, and accident prevention methods
  • Assist with routine adjustments and minor repairs to support safe equipment operation

Benefits

  • Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,844 (before taxes).
