Requirements

  • Two years as a Tradesman Helper (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) working in the automotive field; or Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of employment.
  • Possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • Obtain a valid Pennsylvania Class 4 or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period.
  • Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the six-month probationary period.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • Operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission within the six-month probationary period.
  • Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed on the first day of employment.
  • Possession of a basic set of tools to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports upon conditional offer of employment.
  • Drug screening upon conditional offer of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the repair and overhaul of cars, trucks, and heavy equipment
  • Take part in routine vehicle and equipment servicing to keep machinery in safe working condition
  • Help identify mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and follow proper repair steps
  • Apply safety procedures, identify work hazards, and follow training to prevent injuries
  • Maintain equipment service records and report missing or damaged parts
