Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License and any endorsements necessary to operate specific vehicles or equipment
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
  • Active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by end of probationary period
  • Ability to perform essential job functions
  • Drug screening required for conditional offer of employment

Responsibilities

  • Repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment across multiple systems
  • Complete routine service tasks to reduce wear and extend equipment life
  • Identify mechanical issues using tools and procedures to determine proper repair steps
  • Follow safety rules, use proper protective equipment, and maintain a safe workspace
  • Carry out official state safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
  • Maintain accurate equipment service records and report damage or missing parts
