About The Position

As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will join a team that keeps essential transportation systems moving. Your work will help ensure that vehicles and heavy equipment are safe and ready for daily operations. This position focuses on repairing, maintaining, and diagnosing a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment for safe and dependable operation. Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License
• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application
• Ability to perform essential job functions

Nice To Haves

• Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by the end of the probationary period

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical components
• Complete scheduled service tasks to keep vehicles and equipment in safe working condition
• Identify issues using tools and diagnostic equipment to decide proper repair methods
• Carry out safety and emissions inspections and complete all required documentation
• Maintain and service motorized hand tools and report missing or damaged parts
• Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and take steps to prevent injuries

Benefits

• Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes).
