About The Position

The Department of Transportation’s Tunnel Maintenance Division is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics. In this role, you will perform a variety of duties, including diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on a fleet of construction equipment, trucks, and cars. Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
  • Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
  • Employees must pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, tune ups, and system adjustments
  • Complete required safety and emissions inspections and perform repairs for compliance
  • Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic tools and determine proper repair methods
  • Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report hazards promptly
  • Maintain accurate equipment records and report missing or damaged parts
