DaVita is hiring a Dialysis Technician, also referred to as a Patient Care Technician (PCT), to provide patient care at its Canton Dialysis Center in Canton, Ohio. Paid training is provided through a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on learning; training may take place at the assigned clinic or another training facility. The clinic operates Monday through Saturday from 3:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PCTs generally work three to four days per week, including at least two Saturdays per month, and may start as early as 3:00 a.m. Training hours may vary, but typically range from 32 to 40 hours per week. Shifts vary with patient needs, and candidates must be flexible to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Teammates may also be asked to work at multiple clinics in the territory. The role provides direct, one-on-one dialysis care, with PCTs caring for as many as four to five patients at a time. Duties include preparing the water room and bicarbonate, testing water for chlorine, checking equipment calibration, setting up hemodialysis machines, and monitoring patients before, during, and after treatment. PCTs measure and record patient statistics, observe patients, and help ensure treatments are safe, comfortable, and hygienic. The role involves exposure to blood and needles and mixing acid or bicarbonate. PCTs build relationships with patients receiving dialysis for end-stage renal disease, typically three times per week, and educate them about kidney dialysis. They work as part of a cross-functional clinical team and under the supervision of a registered nurse. The position requires the physical and mental ability to work long shifts, sometimes 12 or more hours, while on one's feet. Physical tasks include lifting 5 to 50 pounds unassisted and repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and using a full range of body motions. The role also requires clear, efficient in-person and telephone communication and use of a computer and peripherals. DaVita describes opportunities for professional development and advancement through its clinical ladder, Preceptor University, and a tuition-funded pathway for qualifying PCTs interested in becoming registered nurses.
