About The Position

The Dialysis Technician provides support to residents receiving dialysis services in a long-term care setting. The position assists with the safe preparation, delivery, monitoring, and completion of dialysis treatments under the direction and supervision of qualified licensed nursing personnel, dialysis professionals, and/or the contracted dialysis provider, as applicable. The Dialysis Technician maintains a safe, clean, and supportive environment while promoting resident dignity, comfort, and quality of care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of an approved dialysis technician or related training program, when required.
  • Current certification or credentialing required by applicable state law, facility policy, or dialysis provider.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established clinical procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and safety practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with dialysis patients or in long-term care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing the dialysis treatment area, equipment, supplies, and resident according to established procedures.
  • Assist with dialysis equipment setup, operation, cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance within the scope of training and applicable regulations.
  • Assist licensed personnel and dialysis professionals with dialysis treatments as directed.
  • Monitor residents during treatment and promptly report changes in condition, complaints, abnormal observations, or potential complications to the appropriate licensed professional.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other observations as assigned and permitted by applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to dialysis treatments and resident care.
  • Follow infection prevention and control practices, including appropriate hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate cleanliness and organization of dialysis equipment and treatment areas.
  • Follow facility, dialysis-provider, manufacturer, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with positioning, transferring, transporting, and providing comfort measures to residents as directed.
  • Observe residents for signs of discomfort, distress, bleeding, changes in mental status, or other changes requiring immediate attention.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, residents, families, physicians, dialysis providers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Protect resident privacy and confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow facility emergency procedures.
  • Maintain required certifications, training, competencies, and continuing education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
