About The Position

The Diagnostic Imaging Mammography Lead is responsible for performing mammograms accurately according to established procedures and Radiologist's special instructions. This role also involves completing machine warm-up/shut down procedures, assisting with other department tasks, and maintaining accurate and complete records, including Mammo QA, log books, and daily work sheets. The Lead ensures previous exams are available for comparison and passes images to the reading room for interpretation. They obtain pertinent patient history, practice radiation safety, and maintain an orderly work area with adequate supplies. Additionally, the position requires excellent guest relation skills, performing various radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, reporting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining records for Mammography Accreditation. Patient confidentiality must be upheld, and the Lead will assist in teaching radiology students. Attendance at department and mandatory hospital meetings is required, along with maintaining the necessary CEU level for ARRT certification.

Requirements

  • Competent in Mammography and procedures, both screening and diagnostic.
  • High School diploma or equivalent, or, graduated from an approved radiologic training program.
  • Registered by ARRT in Radiologic Technology.
  • Is registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) for Mammograms and is in good standing with same.
  • Code Blue Training
  • Constant standing.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Frequent lifting of 10-20 lbs.
  • Occasional heavy lifting of 55 lbs., above 55 lbs. with assistance.
  • Carrying of 25 lbs. frequently, and occasionally carrying 50lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling 100 lbs.
  • Occasional twisting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and overhead work.
  • Occasional use of step stool and stairs.
  • Frequent grasping.
  • Ability to use typewriter, telephone, copier, and fax machine is required.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials is required.
  • Eye sight and hearing shall be required to be corrected to normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
  • Eye-hand coordination and finger and manual dexterity are required.
  • Required to work with sharps, magnetic fields, radiation, and body fluids.

Nice To Haves

  • Computed Tomography, a plus but not required.
  • CT Scanning Registry, or MRI is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies patients identity and physician order prior to start of examination.
  • Performs Mammograms accurately according to established procedure or Radiologist's special instructions.
  • Completes machine warm-up/shut down procedure.
  • Assists with other department task when not performing mammograms.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records, (i.e. Mammo QA, log book, daily work sheet as well as all information on designated screens in the hospital MEDITECH computer system).
  • Brings previous exams forward for comparison by Radiologist and passes images to reading room for interpretation.
  • Obtains pertinent physical history on all patients/exams.
  • Practices radiation safety by following, federal, state and hospital policies.
  • Maintains a clear and orderly work area and keeps a needed stock of supplies available.
  • Demonstrates good guest relation skills while dealing with patients, their families, physicians and other hospital and department staff.
  • Performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, along with all modalities in which the Tech is trained.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to manager and call repairmen when needed.
  • Files and maintains records for Mammography Accreditation.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality while following established hospital policy regarding confidentiality issues.
  • Assists in the teaching of all radiology students who are assigned to SBAMH as a clinical training site.
  • Attends at least 75% of department meetings.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings as established by the hospital.
  • Maintains required CEU level as established by the ARRT for annual certification status.
