The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Six years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience reviewing, verifying, and interpreting WRITS, Court Orders, Sentence Commitments, Court and/or Immigration Detainers, court releases, court transfer orders, and intake/bail review summaries to determine and resolve issues involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
  • 3 years of experience supervising Commitment Records Specialist Staff

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Assistant Director of the Central Commitment Records Center and assists in the direction of the daily operation.
  • Assists the Executive Director and Executive Deputy Director in providing technical guidance and training to Commitment personnel throughout the state.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policy and procedural changes as a result of appellate decisions or legislative changes.
  • Responsible for investigating appeals of Incarcerated Individual requests for administrative remedy, provides assistance with the management of sentence calculations and releases for Maryland DOC Incarcerated Individuals housed in other states, and investigates and responds to inquiries and complaints assigned by the administration.
  • Represents the agency in court and Incarcerated Individual grievance hearings.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of the Central Commitment Records Center and assists with oversight of the statewide daily operation to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Investigates appeals of Incarcerated Individual requests for administrative remedy and prepares a response for the Commissioner’s signature within required timeframes.
  • Awards credits pursuant to §3706.1, CSA, ACM; processes revocation decisions held at local detention centers; and provides records certifications within required timeframes.
  • Assists with the management of sentence calculations and releases of Incarcerated Individuals housed out of state under the Interstate Corrections Compact.
  • Represents the agency in court and Incarcerated Individual grievance hearing, or before state and local officials, or agency senior level managers and executives of other agencies concerning program activities.
