About The Position

This opportunity is a 3-month temporary position. It is fully onsite in our Ithaca, NY office. The Deposit Operations Specialist I performs specialized operational duties that support deposit products and data integrity. Processes exception items, completes routine account maintenance, validates reports, and partners with Retail and internal teams to resolve deposit account issues accurately and on time. Team members may be cross trained in foundational deposit operations and may also specialize in one or more focus areas: Deposit Escrow, IRA/HSA, and/or Abandoned Property. This structure promotes collaboration, flexibility, and subject matter expertise while ensuring compliance and operational excellence. Team members may rotate or cross-train across focus areas to build broader expertise and support department flexibility. Opportunities for advancement and deeper specialization will be based on performance, interest, and business needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 0-2 years of banking or relevant operational experience required
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Basic problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and core banking systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting goals and deadlines
  • Ability to deliver outstanding client support
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude when working through challenges

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in a business-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily operational tasks such as data entry, account updates, and document processing with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with internal procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Respond to basic inquiries from internal teams and assist with customer service support.
  • Maintain organized records and assist with documentation for audits and reporting.
  • Support team members with special projects and department initiatives as needed.
  • Help maintain current written procedures for assigned duties.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements.
  • Support deposit escrow products including account setup, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Support IOLA/IOLTA account management, ensuring proper titling, interest processing, and state reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records and support customer service teams with escrow-related inquiries.
  • Support operational and customer service functions related to IRA and HSA products.
  • Partner with internal teams for training, documentation, and system updates.
  • Support management of abandoned assets; ensuring procedures are followed.
  • Maintain data integrity and accuracy for customer accounts and manage quality assurance of submitted correspondence and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and laws such as conducting proactive and regulatory outreach to customers.
  • Conduct due diligence outreach and maintain accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with legal, audit, and external agencies to resolve inquiries and maintain data integrity.
  • Provide assistance to Retail and Branch staff with account setup and maintenance.
  • Help escalate and resolve basic issues related to deposit products.
  • Assist with training sessions and documentation updates under supervision.
  • Participate in system testing and updates in collaboration with IT and senior staff.
