Deployment Strategist

Recidiviz•Oakland, CA
•$99,750 - $117,600•Remote

About The Position

Recidiviz is hiring a Deployment Strategist for its State Engagement team, which works with state Departments of Corrections to reduce incarceration safely and equitably. The team is building systems for time computation, classification, intake, and moves management. The Deployment Strategist owns the planning and execution needed to ensure these initiatives are approved, delivered, adopted, and operational in partner states. The work involves coordinating internally across Account Management, Product, and Engineering, as well as building trust with correctional staff whose policies, procedures, and daily work are affected by a system launch or policy change. The role maps the operational changes required for a rollout and turns them into actionable plans and materials, such as policy-to-procedure crosswalks, facility readiness checklists, staff communications, and resident-facing explanations. The Strategist supports affected staff, develops local champions, identifies and resolves blockers, and converts deployment experience into reusable playbooks and templates. The position is remote or based in New York City or Oakland, California, and involves roughly 30 percent travel to prisons, correctional headquarters, and parole offices in partner states.

Requirements

  • Experience earning credibility with busy or skeptical operational staff through usefulness, directness, and reliability.
  • Track record of leading adoption of a policy, process, or system change by people who did not report to you in a large operational organization, such as government, corrections, healthcare, logistics, or enterprise software implementation.
  • Accountability for both a system going live and people working differently after go-live.
  • Ability to independently turn an outcome and an ambiguous situation into a plan, milestones, and stakeholder map, and to drive the work forward.
  • Ability to detect problems early and raise them before they become crises.
  • Clear communication and disciplined documentation skills, including writing procedures, explaining policy changes in plain language, and giving product teams concise field feedback.
  • Comfort with and curiosity about both technology and policy, including understanding how statutes inform operational rules and data models.
  • Active listening, humility, empathy, steadiness, and self-regulation when working with subject matter experts, incarcerated individuals, and correctional staff.
  • Willingness to travel roughly 30 percent of the time, including regular visits to prisons and correctional headquarters.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing an enterprise or government system, such as an offender management system, electronic health record, or case management platform, and supporting it through go-live.
  • Experience working on a small, scrappy team and building repeatable processes where none existed.
  • Familiarity with corrections policy, including administrative regulations, statutes governing earned credit and custody, and the procedures that implement them.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive deployment plans, milestones, sequencing, approvals, and workstream coordination, both internally and with partner agencies.
  • Run the operating cadence across Account Management, Product, and Engineering, and identify and unblock stalled work.
  • Map the policy, procedural, role, facility, and approval changes required for a state rollout.
  • Create implementation materials such as policy-to-procedure crosswalks, facility readiness checklists, staff communications, and resident-facing explanations.
  • Prepare case managers and other staff to support residents affected by policy or system changes.
  • Build trusted relationships with correctional staff, including classification officers, records and sentence computation staff, case managers, program coordinators, wardens, and deputy wardens.
  • Understand staff concerns, support adoption, and develop local champions to extend stakeholder trust and engagement.
  • Create reusable playbooks, templates, and deployment practices based on lessons from state implementations.

Benefits

  • 90% medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and their dependents.
  • Flexible time off, including 20 days of PTO, 3 days of paid volunteering time, and 13 paid holidays per year.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 5% company match and no vesting period.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Complimentary One Medical membership, with availability based on location.
  • Carrot partnership providing fertility and family-forming benefits, as well as some hormonal health and gender-affirming care benefits.
  • Monthly ClassPass credit for personal wellness.
  • Free mental health support via Talkspace.
  • Flexibility to work remotely or from the Oakland or Manhattan office.
  • Annual company offsite and other ad-hoc gatherings.
