Departmental Technician 7-E9 (Finance)

About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for the Commission Help Line, handling customer service needs in the liquor wholesale operation through private Authorized Distribution Agents (ADAs). Calls cover a wide variety of problems, including a significant percentage dealing with human conflict, and some of a serious or threatening nature. The position develops solutions to Help Line calls, documents their nature, responds in a timely manner, and follows up. Additionally, this position aids in the approval or denial of vendor-submitted products in the liquor price quotation system, reviews liquor quotations for product additions, deletions, or price changes, and assists in the registration of new spirit products and their labels before sales can be made in Michigan. It requires frequent coordination and communication with over 400 liquor vendors and assists them by explaining the E-quote system. This position is also responsible for the operation of the Commission’s liquor purchasing system.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school.
  • One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service (for Departmental Technician 7).
  • One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service (for Departmental Technician 8).
  • One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service (for Departmental Technician 8).
  • One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service (for Departmental Technician E9).
  • One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service (for Departmental Technician E9).
  • Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service (for Departmental Technician E9).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement (for Departmental Technician 7).
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement (for Departmental Technician 8).
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement (for Departmental Technician E9).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Commission Help Line, addressing customer service needs in the liquor wholesale operation.
  • Develop solutions for Help Line calls, document call nature, respond promptly, and follow up.
  • Assist in approving or denying vendor-submitted products in the liquor price quotation system.
  • Review liquor quotations for product changes and price adjustments.
  • Assist in registering new spirit products and their labels.
  • Coordinate and communicate with over 400 liquor vendors.
  • Explain the E-quote system to liquor vendors.
  • Operate the Commission’s liquor purchasing system.
